At Second Act Careers, we’ve been bridging the gap between exceptional talent and thriving organizations since 1990. Guy, our founder, was heavily into acting in high school and college, and the 2nd act in a play was where the real meaning of the story took place.

The 1st act is the introduction of characters. The 2nd act is where the action and life take place, and the 3rd act, or the final act is the conclusion of the story. We can rewrite the 2nd act at any given time. The candidate holds the pen or paintbrush and can rewrite their story or paint an altogether different picture.

Thus, the beginning of Second Act Careers, LLC: an HR Consulting, Career/Life Coaching, and Recruiting company was born from my love of what can happen in that second act of life/next opportunity.

Why the name Second Act Careers, LLC

“I was recently asked how I came to name the name company. It was actually a simple story. I was heavily into acting in high school and college, and the second act is where the real meaning of life takes place.

The First act is the introduction of characters and the Third act or Final act is the conclusion of the story, the ending. So the Second act, also referred to as “rising action,” is the place to be …. where the action is or the best story takes place. We can even rewrite the second act at any given time. With over 35 years of experience in Human Resources, Search, and Staffing, Guy Hulen is a recognized leader in the industry, known for his expertise in organic growth and business reengineering. A seasoned professional who has thrived in both Sales and Human Resources, Guy brings a unique perspective to the staffing and recruitment world, having worked hands-on in sales roles before transitioning into HR and staffing.

As a corporate senior executive, Guy was responsible for overseeing Sales, Human Resources, Talent Learning and Development, and Recruiting teams at the world’s largest financial institution. His deep experience spans across some of the most prestigious companies in the United States, where he has helped optimize growth strategies and enhance talent acquisition processes.

Guy’s exceptional ability to source, recruit, and retain top talent is a direct result of his diverse career background. From managing fast-paced environments as a Walmart manager to becoming a top-performing Regional and District Manager at Household International, Beneficial, and HSBC, he has demonstrated a consistent track record of success. His leadership and contributions were recognized when he was honored with the prestigious Circle of Excellence award at HSBC, an achievement few HR professionals attain.

After HSBC left the United States in 2007, Guy channeled his skills in sales and HR into founding his own staffing and recruiting company, where he has remained deeply committed to helping organizations grow while maintaining EEO compliance. His approach is strategic, always focused on delivering long-term value through strong partnerships with clients and an unwavering commitment to creating environments where employees thrive.

Throughout his career, Guy has been an active participant in professional organizations such as SHRM, ASA, NAPS, MKSSA, and ISSA, serving in roles ranging from speaker to president. His passion for both the operational and human resources sides of business continues to drive his success and makes him a sought-after expert in talent acquisition and business growth.
